This set of posts will focus on my Final Project for EDU 5527. At the start of the project, I identified two tools that I wanted to learn more about. I considered these tools to be areas of weakness in my educational technology repertoire. Next, I created a proposal and action plan that would help me improve my educational technology skill set by becoming more familiar with my chosen tools. See below:
Areas of Weakness
Gizmo & Nearpod
Proposal
I would like to explore tools that can strengthen my ability to teach science to middle school students. I have been pretty successful in navigating hybrid teaching in ENL and I will only be in this position for about 6 more weeks, so I don’t really want to focus on ed-tech tools for ENL. I will be student teaching in a 6th grade science class in January. I want to come prepared to work with these students and teach them all that I can about science.
I spoke with my cooperating teacher for the spring and she recommended my exploration of Gizmo because of its online labs. I also want to toy with Nearpod because I haven’t been able to move past the free version which is very limiting. I see the many ways that Nearpod can be used but I haven’t actually had the chance to create my own Nearpod lessons. I need to talk to the technology department at my school in order to gain subscription access to Nearpod.
Action Plan
I will explore Gizmo from 11/24-11/27. I will try out some of the labs that pertain to my content area and see if I can begin a “library” so that I know where to find the useful labs next semester. I will explore Nearpod from 11/29-12/2. I will create a Nearpod lesson that demonstrates what I have learned about the tool. I will create a Report from 12/3-12/6 that highlights my takeaways from this exploration.
