Motivation/ Engagement
I understand how educational technologies can be used to support student participation, engagement, motivation, and learning.
Schoology Calendar - This calendar is empty at the moment because there are no upcoming assignments, but my students found this tool to be very useful when keeping track of the assignments and staying motivated.
Read and Write - This tool allows students to highlight text and it will be. read to them. This helps promote participation for learners with different needs.
Kahoot - a fun way to quiz and/or survey students to encourage participation and engagement
I am aware of the research that provides evidence for the connections between educational technology and student participation, engagement, motivation, and learning.*
I am not aware of this research but I see the connections firsthand.
Anything Else
I am willing to take risks
I attempted to use Mural on the first day of virtual school, seen in the Collaboration/Annotation/Feedback post. It was a big flop because the student's needed to have the app installed on their iPads and we don't have that capability without the help of the tech department, but at least I tried!
I remain teachable
I am usually willing to learn new tools (like Padlet, also seen in the Collaboration/Annotation/Feedback post). I am not usually the first person to seek out or try new technology, but I employ tools when colleagues recommend their use or provide tutorials.
I am able to sift through multiple sources in order to find answers to my questions
I am usually able to figure out tech issues with the help of Google, even though I am easily frustrated with technology and find myself taking breaks rather than persevering through a problem in one sitting.
Brooke,
I really appreciated your ability to assess your own skills and deficits (strengths and weaknesses) in depth as well as your ability to summarize them in a way that highlights your priorities.
I also thought you did a terrific job processing and incorporating Ezra's feedback.
Final Thoughts
Motivational tools: Schoology Calendar, Read and Write, and Kahoot → (✓✓+)
o You appear to be more than sufficiently skilled at using all of the tools you listed.
o One thing to consider with Read and Write is that while it makes material more accessible for a wider range of students it does not seem to necessarily motivate students to complete the work (does that make sense?). Plus, with Kahoot, from what I understand it is most helpful in a group setting. Maybe you could look into Quizlet since that has features which cater to individual studying?
Connections → (✓)
o Given that, as you state, you have clearly seen the connection between educational technology and motivation I…
Is Schoology only available if your school has bought access to it? I tried googling it to see if it could be useful for me, but I was unable to easily access it. P.S. Since this is your last post, I will be posting a longer comment detailing all of my feedback, this was just the first qu that came to mind lol
P.P.S. As of 9/19 I decided to comment each piece of feedback on the corresponding post because I didn't want to overwhelm you with having everything be on one long post. (I was also inspired by your decision to do the same with my feedback :) ).
